Open & Congress

The main venue of the AGI Open and the AGI Congress will be the Congress Centre (Kongresshaus in German and Palais des Congrès in French). Because of its high-rise office tower the Congress Centre is the most visible landmark of the city. Designed by Max Schlup and built between 1961 and 1966 the building is the most famous example of the modern architecture of Biel/Bienne. It was renovated between 2000 and 2002 by Rolf Mühlethaler. Under one of European’s largest suspended roof the Congress Centre hosts a large a concert hall, conference rooms, a restaurant, an indoor pool and a fitness facility. It is located in the heart of the city within walking distance to all the other venues, the hotels and the train station.

Welcome drink & Registration

The place to relax, meet and mingle: The official AGI Congress bar and its terrace will be on the first floor of the Brasserie Rotonde. The very popular restaurant is part of the Volkshaus / La maison du peuple (english: People’s House). The landmark building was designed and built under the direction of Eduard Lanz between 1928 and 1932 and is an impressive monument of the city’s union movement as well as a symbol for the rise of the Social Democratic Party in Switzerland.

Gala Dinner

The AGI Congress will end with a special Gala Dinner on the beautiful St. Peter’s Island. “I have stayed at many lovely places; but nowhere have I felt so truly happy”, wrote the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who lived there for a while in the 18th century. Today the peninsula in the lake of Biel is a popular tourist destination for all those who seeking tranquility and natural beauty. The gourmet restaurant is situated in an old monastery where you can witness a thousand years of European cultural history. 

Centre PasquArt

Special Project Exhibition Opening

The Centre PasquArt is Biel/Bienne’s Museum of Art. Together with the New Museum it is part of the small but distinguished Museum’s District and located halfway between the Old Town and the lake. It will host the opening ceremony of the special project «Coexistence». This open air exhibition will be showed at the Schüsspromenade right in the heart of the city.
